Tropical North Queensland is a region rich with wildlife and rare species. If you’re lucky you’ll spot endangered cassowary birds walking around the Daintree Rainforest, large spider-webs with their inquisitive 8-legged inhabitants lurking at freshwater swimming holes or neon green tree frogs relaxing on your window. Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat is always exciting but if you prefer to check out them out at your own pace, then Tropical North Queensland has several fantastic wildlife parks to WOW you.
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures just 40 minutes north of Cairns is one of those places and it will leave lasting memories for all animal lovers.
From the carpark, it’s hard to tell what’s behind the painted walls but once you have passed the entrance you quickly realize that there is a whole new world waiting – I would actually recommend spending at least a couple of hours or more if time permits.
Children will be mesmerized by what’s available to discover and adults will welcome the shady paths and fantastic displays. A favourite that attracts a lot of attention is the Lagoon boat cruise. It allows you to cruise the waters in the safety of a boat on the look out for those dinosaur-like crocodiles or “salties”.
If crocs don’t float your boat how about paying a visit to our fluffy wildlife friend the Koala. Who hasn’t dreamt of being able to hold one of those furry guys? Once in your arms, you will not want to hand it back!
At Hartley’s, you can also meet tamed wallabies and kangaroos that let you leisurely roam in their walk-through enclosure, and guests can help the keepers with the afternoon feed.
For all the bird lovers out there, large walk-through aviaries are another highlight to the park. You will find cheeky kookaburras, shy and sleepy owls at the predatory bird aviary and at the tropical walk-through aviary, you will find colourful lorikeets that allow for those fabulous shots.
Ultimately, Hartley’s is more than a crocodile and wildlife park; it is an award-winning sanctuary dedicated to providing the best care for wildlife.
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm everyday (except Christmas Day). To find out what’s on and when click here.
