In-between sound checks Melbourne born band The Bamboos visited Fitzroy Island on the Great Barrier Reef. The Bamboos have performed at major festivals all over the country and have now been to our neck of the woods (Tropical North Queensland). Learn some interesting facts about the band and how they spent their day at Fitzroy Island.
Bamboos have been together for over a decade now, how much time do you spend away from home and on the road?
“Too much time! Especially this year! Im a home body so would rather not but I do get to go lovely places” – Kylie Auldist (Vocals)
Spending time traveling with others, friends, family, colleagues often creates some pretty memorable moments, can you share one that you’ve experienced whilst on the road with the Bamboo’s?
“Going to Fitzroy Island was pretty magic! We’ve had so many adventures involving cold sandwiches and beer!” – Kylie Auldist (Vocals)
We often hear that a gig going crowd can vary a lot from town to town, what do you think defines the audience you play to in the Tropical North?
“Queenslanders are very friendly and always up for a party! At our most recent gig at the Reef casino they didnt know many of our songs but danced along anyway!” – Kylie Auldist (Vocals)
Do you find the experiences you have traveling on the road end up finding their way into your music or influencing the bands output? (If yes, provide your favorite example!)
“Not really! Sometimes a little aside or a title of an instrumental ie Nightsports and One man entourage!” – Kylie Auldist (Vocals)
Speaking of output, are you working on any music currently?
“Im writing a few things here and there. Lots of collaborations. Also looking forward to the release of the new Bamboos album.” – Kylie Auldist (Vocals)
So the tropics has a bit of a reputation for it’s humid conditions, we can only imagine putting in your all on a stage bathed in hot lighting and a room full of excited punters can be a bit of a challenge? Do you find the temperature challenging? How do you cope?
